Her Mth in Clinical Pastoral Counselling entitled The quest for identity postpartum. A pastoral perspective on womanhood reflects on the postpartum period which signals a time of transition in several dimensions of a woman’s life and her identity. An integral part of being a woman has to do with the experience of pregnancy and childbirth. A great majority of women can expect to undergo this significant experience at least once in their lives. However, the impact of the postpartum period on a women’s identity is an area that has been under-researched. Dr Friedel’s study adress this knowledge gap.

Her doctoral dissertation in Psychology is entitled Adaptation in new parent married couples: Key processes and qualities of resilience. Thus, the present study contributes towards the body of knowledge on the resilience construct, whilst simultaneously generating knowledge relevant to the South African context. The findings have practical implications for preventative and therapeutic interventions, which focus on either new-parent married couples, or prospective parents.
